This class is a close study, held in seminar style, of writings authored by philosophers who are now, or were at some time considered existentialists. Authors include, but are not limited to; Fyodor Dostoevsky (1864), Soren Kierkegaard (1846), Friedrich Nietzsche (1891), Jean-Paul Sartre (1937), Albert Camus (1940). Students will read philosophical texts, as well as ancient and contemporary literature. Special attention will be paid to the concepts of; Individuality, freedom, and choice.
